Prof. Vassilis Fouskas

Biography:

Vassilis read international history and European politics at the universities of London, Athens and Perugia. He worked in many universities in the country and abroad and founded and led academic associations, journals, centres of research excellence and post-graduate courses in International Conflict & Security at the universities of Kingston (Reader in International Relations) and Stirling (Senior Lecture in International Relations). He was a Stanley J. Seeger Fellow at Princeton University in 2005 and a Leverhulme Trust Fellow in 2003. At UEL and the School Vassilis leads the Centre for the Study of States, Markets & People (STAMP). He is the founding editor of the refereed periodical Journal of Balkan and Near Eastern Studies (Routledge, quarterly) and one of the founding Editors of the Journal of Global Fault-lines

Interests and Expertise

Vassilis' research interests lie in the field of 20th century political and economic history; globalisation and the state; theories of international politics and economics; heterodox economics; international relations and geopolitics of Eurasia; hegemonic transitions and world systems theory; financialisation, the Euro-zone crisis and the power-shift to the "global East"; Italian, Greek and European politics; the Cyprus issue and Greek-Turkish relations. Vassilis welcomes PhD applications on any of those themes
